ABOUT GREGOR

You’ve got a lot on your plate — work, family, social life — and things just seem to crop up when you least expect it. All of this can mean that taking care of your own health and fitness gets pushed to the bottom of your priorities. That’s why I’ve built a coaching system just for you.

I’m Gregor, a personal trainer, based in Edinburgh, with 18 years of experience. I help busy people, in their 40s and beyond, lose weight, eliminate sore spots, build strength, improve their mood, and train for big (and small) goals — without dropping all the other plates they’re spinning. Over the years, I’ve helped thousands of people with families, demanding careers and complex personal lives let go of crash diets, eat the foods they love, and improve their fitness, whilst also prioritising enjoyment and the development of long-term lifestyle change.

I’ve enjoyed a life-long love of movement. As a kid, I tried almost every sport on the menu, and there wasn’t an evening when I wasn’t outside with friends playing football or riding my bike around the neighbourhood. Later, I competed in athletics at a district and national level, and took part in various global fitness events from marathons to Tough Mudder and Hyrox. Exercise wasn't something I had to do. It was simply what made life fun.

This passion is what led me to become a personal trainer.

“My ambition isn't simply to help you get fitter. It's to help you build a relationship with movement that enriches your life, gives you confidence in what your body can do, and allows you to keep saying yes to the things that matter most for many years to come.”

Personal Trainer, Gregor Ridley is running uphill on a rocky and grassy hillside under a cloudy sky in Edinburgh.

Today, my relationship with exercise continues to evolve. I’m now a dad to two energetic young boys, living through the competing priorities of family, career and health that I see so many of my clients also navigating. I want to spend time with my family, but not just bone-tired on the sofa!

So, whether you’re looking to get back into the sport you love, preparing for your first marathon, or simply hoping to increase your endurance, energy and fitness levels, my job is to help you get there in a way that works alongside everything else you’ve got going on — to help you make sense of the increasingly fickle fitness industry with its unending cycle of social-media-fuelled micro trends, viral workout videos, and diametrically opposed nutritional fads. To filter out the noise, allowing you to focus on the things that will make the biggest difference to your overall sense of wellbeing.

In a nutshell, I offer fuss-free, flexible guidance that leads to real, lasting results.

There are myriad ways to get in shape, but the best type of exercise is the one that you’ll actually enjoy and keep doing. No one style of training has all the answers. My approach is to take the best bits from varied training systems and curate them in a way that helps you become stronger, fitter and more capable, whatever stage of life you are in. Each of my programmes is highly individualised and designed to operate with a level of versatility that allows for the constantly shifting priorities and experiences we all face on a daily basis.

My ambition isn't simply to help you get fitter. It's to help you build a relationship with movement that enriches your life, gives you confidence in what your body can do, and allows you to keep saying yes to the things that matter most for many years to come.

“I’ve been “running” for a while but there was so much that I didn’t know. I get much more enjoyment out of it these days. Gregor has helped me to run my three fastest half marathons in the past two years. I managed to take 8 minutes off my best time in the last one which was an amazing feeling. The mobility and strength training has helped my time, and helped me to avoid any injuries.”

”I've been working in sport for 15 years and have coached World and European age-group Triathlon Champions; as such, I'm not easily impressed by coaches. If you are an endurance athlete looking for a strength and conditioning coach (and if you don't have one, then you should be!) - look no further.”

“I  had surgery for a bulging disc in my back. Gregor helped me in my recovery, ensuring I got back to fitness gradually. In the 4 years since surgery, I’ve been injury free. Gregor is a great coach. He is a motivator and has always pushed me to my limits even at times when I doubt myself and my abilities.”
